Why I value my time so much

2 minute read

Time is the only thing in life that has an actual limit on it. No matter how much money you earn, you will never be able to buy more time (until medicine finally enables that, if ever).

So, I am very careful with how I spend my time and make sure that it is spent in the best way possible.

So how do I spend my time?

At the moment, I am studying for my ACCA exams, working full-time, and running thebankengine.com. I’m not sure how I do it all either!

I am also balancing this with making sure I spend enough time socialising with family and friends, so it is crucial to find that balance.

For example, I have spent roughly 60 hours doing matched betting over the past 5 months, yet this has made me £900+ alongside providing me with content for The Bank Engine. This content has generated an additional £75 worth of income as well.

I see this as a good use of my time because, first of all, I don’t get paid £16 per hour at work so this just makes perfect sense. But also, that £975 invested at the market average of 9.2% over 10 years becomes £2,438.

I sacrifice my time now so that I can choose what I do with my time in the future. That is why I am ploughing so much time into this business. It is the main tool that will allow me to work for myself and have the option to retire by 30 years old.

It is very concerning how over-working yourself can lead to bad health problems and even death. So, because of this, I need to be careful that I am not overdoing it.

This is why I take time away from this at the weekends. Why I try to limit my time to 1 hour per day in the week and am studying for my exams for 2 hours a day.

And for this reason, I took a 3-week break ahead of ACCA exam season. It makes more sense to pass this exam than to concentrate on building a business. Looking back, I know that we lost out on growth and income, but I am certain I would have done a lot worse on the exam had I not taken this break.

As always, I am keen to hear your opinions and whether you value your time more than money or vice versa. Let us know by sending us a message on Instagram!
