Why I’m banned from betting sites

In January 2021 I embarked on a mission to earn an additional £500 per month from side hustles. The first side hustle I took on was in the form of matched betting.

For those of you who don’t know what matched betting is; it is a way of taking advantage of promotions run by betting sites so that you always make a profit.

It can be quite complicated for beginners (you can check out more on this here) but it has proved a great income source over the first 5 months of the year.

So far I have bagged over £900 in profits from sports offers alone and am yet to enter the world of casino offers!

But why am I banned?

Despite signing up for close to 50 betting sites this year, I am only banned from 6 of them. When I say banned, specifically what they have done is prevented me from receiving promotional offers (free bets, etc.)

In the matched betting community this is known as getting ‘gubbed’. It is particularly unpopular as some of the sites I have been gubbed from were earning me an easy £7 profit per week.

However, betting sites are very cautious to ensure that they always win. So, if the activity of an account even so much as looks like it is being used by a matched bettor they will prevent that person from being able to receive promotions.

It’s not the end of the world, as the ones I am banned from aren’t the big bookies.

It is irritating, of course, because being banned from these sites is causing my profit levels to fall. However, it is all part of the game and I cannot complain too much as I still have a plethora of betting sites that are earning me a decent side income

How many will I be banned from the end? Hopefully not many but only time will tell.

Just a short blog post today, but I thought it was an interesting topic that all of you new matched bettors may want to hear about! Not sure what matched betting is? Have a deep dive here.
