What is Mystery Shopping?
Mystery Shopping is a side hustle that I started back in late 2020 when I stumbled across a number of apps, and it has soon grown to a regular monthly earner for me! To date, I have made £1,000+ from completing mystery shopping tasks alongside other jobs on a number of apps.
The main premise for mystery shopping is that you go into a store (or other location) and provide feedback on your experience. This data is then sent back to the management of the store so they can see how their company is being run.
Can anyone do mystery shopping?
I had never done anything similar to this before I downloaded these apps, but I have now completed hundreds of jobs that have resulted in extra income and increased confidence for me. Having the ability to confidently do something like this in public is not something that was initially within me, but I have found this has grown significantly over time.
Mystery Shopping apps
There are three main apps that I use for mystery shopping and these are Roamler, Shepper, and FieldAgent (use code “gam4qhf”). Whilst there are dozens of these apps and websites available in the UK, these are the three I can confidently recommend at the moment.
I am continuously looking into others, and will update this if I find any new ones that are worth recommending to you all!
How easy is mystery shopping?
As long as you have an eye for detail and are able to communicate your experience in a good level of detail, mystery shopping is pretty straightforward!
The main problems that I have experienced are the awkwardness of trying to capture photos in stores when people are going about their usual shopping and attempting to get pictures without them in it, or to avoid looking suspicious (but you do get used to this).
On these apps, there are also a lot of “micro-tasks” which are often more interesting than the mystery shopping tasks for me.
Micro-tasks as a side hustle
Within these apps are occasionally a number of other jobs which pay relatively decently that I wouldn’t constitute as “mystery shopping”. Some of my favourites are:
Rate and reviews (Roamler) - Buy products from stores and capture some images, review the product online afterwards
National Lottery audits (Shepper) - Visit stores with Lottery stands and capture a few images, this takes minutes at each location!
Should I do mystery shopping?
As long as you have a bit of spare time and access to busy areas (relevant transport etc.) it’s well worth downloading these apps and seeing what kind of jobs are available in your areas. I check these apps daily to see if there’s anything new about and tend to make a decent amount every month which amounts to ~£23 per hour that I spend doing these tasks!
