How I made an extra £1,374 in November

If you have been following my financial journey for a while now, you will know that transparency is key for me. In line with this, I share my full additional earnings each month from all my side hustles to show you that it is possible, how it can be done and exactly how much can be made. So without further ado, this is how I did in November.

The Bank Engine: £999.74

Following The Bank Engine’s first £1,000+ profit month in October, I was expecting the level of profitability to drop-off during November but I am beyond grateful to see that it has stayed at a similar level just below that £1,000 mark. This is the result of a number of continuously fantastic offers which paid me and you during November and I cannot thank you enough for using my links.

Included within my November figures is the £100 sign-up bonus received from Virgin Money for opening a sole trader business account with them. I opened an account for The Bank Engine with them and received the £100 very quickly; it disappears very soon so be quick!

As we head into December, I am acutely aware that this will drop as I launch my annual giveaway, take some time off for Christmas and note that many of you will. The rate that The Bank Engine has grown at throughout 2024 so far has been mind-boggling. Thank you for your continuous support.

Mystery Shopping: £166.75

Having now done mystery shopping for a while, I have noticed that there tends to be more opportunities to increase your income in the run-up to Christmas and it certainly hasn’t disappointed last month, here are the 3 apps I used and the specific jobs I did:

Roamler

  • 1 x Red Bull store visit (visit store & speak to them about a potential Red Bull display): £50.00

  • 3 x Hair Care checks (visit store, capture images & answer Qs): £16.00

  • 3 x Cancelled Mince Pie tasks (tasks where cancelled so paid £5 each): £15.00

  • 12 x R&Rs (visit store, capture images, buy products & review): £12.00 + free food

  • 2 x Chocomel checks (visit store, capture images & answer Qs): £10.00

  • 1 x Lighting check (visit store, capture images & answer Qs): £4.00

  • 1 x Baby care check (visist store, capture images & answer Qs): £3.00

Shepper

  • 2 x M&S Shopping List tasks (visit store, locate 50 items, record stock levels & capture images): £32.00

  • 2 x Currys Computer checks (visit store, locate laptops and capture images): £14.00

  • 1 x Vodafone Mystery Shop (visit store, capture images & answer questions): £7.00

  • 1 x Currys Mystery Shop (visit store, capture images & answer questions): £7.00

SmartSpotter

  • 1 x Protein Check (visit store, capture images & answer questions): £5.00

  • 1 x Cat Food Check (visit store, capture images & answer questions): £5.00

  • 1 x Kefir Check (visit store, capture images & answer questions): £4.00

I have also deducted travel costs of £17.25 in getting to my profit figure, this is for parking costs and mileage at HMRC’s approved rates.

Lifetime ISA Bonus: £83.33

I am currently saving for the deposit on my first home, along with my partner, and we both do this in our own Lifetime ISAs - a Government backed scheme that allows you to save £4,000 per tax year and receive a 25% bonus on however much you save into the account.

I pay in £333.33 per month into my Lifetime ISA to reach this maximum £4,000 per year and as such receive a bonus of £83.33 per month from the Government. I currently use Nutmeg for my Lifetime ISA which is a Stocks & Shares Lifetime ISA.

Bank Interest: £64.72

I LOVE passive income, and bank interest is the best form of passive income as its your money working for you. Alongside my current Stocks & Shares Lifetime ISA, I have a Cash Lifetime ISA with Moneybox which I paid into for a good number of years and this is where the bulk of my bank interest comes from each month.

Market Research & Surveys: £27.65

Dscout: £11.45

This app is fast becoming a new favourite and in November I completed a short video survey task talking about new slogans for an education company. This took less than 15 minutes and paid £11.45 ($15) into PayPal within a week.

THX: £10

This app is so easy for earning gift cards. I am averaging around £10 per month for doing the following things:

  • Giving my opinions on TV ads every few days (<30 seconds per time)

  • Allowing access to my location data

I cashed out in November for a £10 Sainsbury’s voucher which went towards groceries we would have paid for anyway.

Google Rewards: £6.20

Another app you should definitely have on your phone! I don’t know if this works better on Android (which I use) but effectively, I earn between 10p-30p regularly through this app for:

  • Answering whether I spent inside a store I visited (uses Google Maps data to track you)

  • Uploading receipts if I did

It is paid as Google Play credit but I just use this to pay for Disney+ which would be paid for anyway. You can get the app on iOS and you get paid via PayPal but I’m unsure quite how frequently you can earn compared to Android!

Cashback: £21.25

Chase 1%: £13.33

During November we took a 10 day road trip up to Scotland and put our expenditure for this trip on my Chase card to maximise the cashback. I also stacked all purchases on EverUp with the Chase card to double-up on cashback.

EverUp: £7.92

Where I wasn’t using gift cards that I earned in some of the above examples, I purchased gift cards via the EverUp app to ensure I was earning the best cashback possible. Find out more about EverUp here.

Dividends: £11.24

Dividends are largely like bank interest, but you receive them for investing in the stock market. They reflect a share of the profits of companies that you have invested in and are paid semi-regularly depending on how you invest.
