Car Finance Compensation Scheme

You have likely already heard about the ongoing concerns around mis-sold car (and other motor vehicles) finance schemes between 6 April 2007 and 1 November 2024, but this week the FCA have announced that 12 million were mis-sold and this is now a mass redress scheme

This means that even if you do not complain, the lender must seek you out to pay you compensation. However, you will receive compensation faster if you do put in a complaint

The total cost of this is expected to be ~£9 billion with each the average payout being ~£830

If you took out a PCP or Hire Purchase agreement between these dates then you can put in a complaint to proceed with this process sooner. There is no guarantee that you will be due compensation but it is better to find out sooner rather than later

If you took out multiple agreements between these dates then you can raise multiple complaints and may be due compensation on each mis-sold agreement

Landlord or Sole Trader with >£50k of Income

If you are then you have likely already heard about the changes for Making Tax Digital (“MTD”) - if not, keep reading!

From 6 April 2026, landlords and sole trades whose income (not profits) was above £50k in 2024/25 must register and comply with MTD

This means that you should maintain records and submit quarterly figures to HMRC alongside your final annual tax return

There are many ways that you can carry out these quarterly submissions including a variety of software which obviously comes with a cost

Landlord or sole trader with income under £50k? You can voluntarily register early should you wish, but please note that if you earn >£30k you must register from 5 April 2027 (based on 25/26 income) and if you earn >£20k you must register from 5 April 2028 (based on 26/27 income)

Cheapest Place for Easter Veg

Last week I shared all of the cheap vegetable offers that had been announced but the other supermarkets have brought out more offers since then and here’s the cheapest places to grab veg this weekend:

• Carrots (1kg) - 4p at Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons

• Parsnips (500g) - 4p at Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons

• Swede (each) - 4p at Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons

• White potatoes (2kg) - 8p at Aldi and Lidl

• Brown onions (1kg) - 8p at Aldi and Lidl

• Broccoli (each) - 15p at Tesco

Morrisons and Kelloggs have linked up this Easter Holiday

Adults and children can visit a Morrisons Café and ask for a “Kelloggs Breakfast” until 19 April and you can get:
