End of the Tax Year Coming Up!

The UK tax year ends on 5 April meaning that everything will reset on the 6th, so if you are hoping to take advantage of any tax incentives you will need to act quickly!

Here are the key tax allowances you need to remember:

• You can pay up to £20,000 into ISA products per year

• You can pay up to £4,000 into a Lifetime ISA per year

• You can earn up to £1,000 in side hustles before you pay tax

• You can earn up to £500 in dividends before you pay tax

  (outside of an ISA, private companies, etc.)

• You can make up to £3,000 of capital gains before you pay tax

  (outside of an ISA)

Thoughts on the Budget

Last week, the Spring Budget was revealed which looks at how the Government plans to raise and spend money and whilst the results were not fruitful they have certainly caused a stir

Nothing was mentioned on the upcoming increases every household will be facing from the start of April (council tax, energy, water, etc.) but instead the military budget has been increased which is likely sensible in the current global climate

However, the “raid” on the country’s most vulnerable by changing the eligibility of PIP (benefits that enable people with disabilities to live) in order to “catch out” a handful that may be claiming falsely does not sit right with me

It is well-known that people do defraud the country’s benefit system but that is not representative of the millions who need these payments to actually survive and the amount of money the Government loses on false claims is nothing in comparison to the cash that could be generated from more moral tax increases
