Please do share with them The Winter Fuel Allowance is going to be paid to everyone in England & Wales who was born before 22 September 1959 Most households will receive £200 if under 80, but will receive £300 if over 80; being treated as £100 each or £150 each individually if living as a couple but this part only matters if you need to repay this This is helpful to many pensioners as we head into Winter, but if you earn over £35,000 then it is worth noting that this money will get claimed back via the tax system The crucial point is that this is £35,000 individually and is taxable income (so does not include ISA interest, ISA dividends, capital gains, etc.) If you are likely to be eligible but will earn in excess of £35,000 you can receive the cash and pay it back through the tax mechanism This will be recovered through PAYE employment income if you do not file a self-assessment tax return. If you do file a self-assessment tax return, it will be recovered here It is worth noting that you can opt-out before 15 September 2025 by: a) Completing the below form, or; b) Calling the Winter Fuel Payment Centre on 0800 731 0160 You will need your National Insurance number to hand to complete this
